Tataranui
About the campsite:
Positioned at the northern end of Abel Tasman National Park, Tātaranui Campsite offers one of the largest and most visually impressive DOC serviced camping environments in the country. Wide golden beaches, crystal clear water and sheltered bays create a coastal experience that consistently ranks among New Zealand best.
The campsite layout is expansive, providing space for campervans, motorhomes and tents across multiple beachside and forested zones. Facilities are extensive for DOC camping, including toilets and cooking shelters that support large visitor volumes. Despite its scale, the site retains a relaxed holiday atmosphere.
The surrounding environment offers world-class swimming, kayaking and coastal walking. The Abel Tasman coastal track connects directly to nearby bays and headlands, while water taxi services operate nearby for longer route exploration. Calm water conditions make this location ideal for families and extended stays.
For campervan travellers, Tātaranui works best as a destination base. Staying multiple nights allows full use of beach access and walking routes. Arriving earlier in the day improves site selection during peak seasons.
Tātaranui delivers iconic coastal camping that defines the Abel Tasman experience.
