Lake Pearson (Moana Rua)

About the campsite:

Positioned high in the alpine basin near Arthur Pass, Lake Pearson offers open lakeside camping with uninterrupted mountain views. The grassy shoreline allows campervans to park directly beside the water, creating one of the most scenic DOC standard camping experiences in Canterbury.

The campsite layout is open and spacious, allowing vehicles to park with lake frontage and wide sky views. Facilities are basic and reflect low impact camping style.

The lake is known for birdlife, including the Great Crested Grebe, making it popular with birdwatchers and photographers. Calm conditions provide excellent reflection opportunities across surrounding peaks.

For campervan travellers, Lake Pearson works well as a scenic overnight stop between Canterbury and the West Coast. Arriving during daylight allows travellers to choose prime lake edge positions.

Lake Pearson delivers expansive alpine scenery and direct water access, making it a standout stop on South Island campervan routes.
