Lumsden Parking

About the campsite:

Located at a historic railway station site, Lumsden Parking Area has become one of the most well known freedom camping locations in the South Island. The small town has embraced campervan tourism, creating a welcoming and social atmosphere.

The parking area is flat and centrally located, allowing campervans to park within walking distance of cafés, bakeries and pubs. Facilities are minimal, but town amenities provide easy access to supplies and dining options.

The surrounding area offers river walks, cycling routes and access to rural Southland landscapes. The historic railway setting adds character and makes this location popular with long term road trippers.

For campervan travellers, Lumsden works exceptionally well as a resupply stop and social overnight base. Arriving during daylight improves access to central parking spaces.

Lumsden Parking Area delivers community connection and convenience rarely found at freedom camping sites.
