Marfells Beach

About the campsite:

Stretching along a wild section of the Pacific coastline, Marfells Beach Campsite offers true beachfront camping with wide open horizons and constant ocean movement. The exposed coastal environment creates a rugged atmosphere that appeals to campervan travellers seeking classic South Island coastal adventure.

The campsite layout allows campervans to park close to the beach behind natural dune protection. Facilities are basic and reflect DOC standard camping style. The open terrain provides excellent visibility across the coastline but also requires attention to wind conditions.

Coastal walking is a major highlight here. Travellers can walk along the shoreline toward Cape Campbell Lighthouse, passing seal colonies, rocky headlands and wide gravel beaches. Birdwatching opportunities are common, with seabirds and coastal species regularly visible.

For campervan travellers, Marfells Beach works well as a first or last South Island overnight stop following ferry crossings. Arriving during daylight is recommended due to coastal exposure and access road conditions.

Marfells Beach delivers raw coastal scenery and open ocean atmosphere that many travellers consider a rite of passage on South Island road trips.
