McCracken's Rest

About the campsite:

Perched above the Southern Ocean, McCrackens Rest offers a dramatic freedom camping lookout with sweeping coastal views and constant ocean activity. The exposed headland position creates powerful scenery that appeals to campervan travellers seeking wild southern landscapes.

The camping area is designated for self contained vehicles and positioned to maximise viewing angles across the coastline. Facilities are not provided, so travellers must arrive fully prepared.

The surrounding environment offers excellent storm watching, whale spotting opportunities during migration seasons and panoramic sunset conditions. The Solander Islands are often visible on clear days, adding to the sense of scale.

For campervan travellers, McCrackens Rest works best as a short scenic overnight stop. Wind exposure can be significant, so careful vehicle positioning is recommended.

McCrackens Rest delivers high impact coastal scenery that adds drama and visual contrast to Southland campervan itineraries.
