Rarangi Campsite

About the campsite:

Set along a wild stretch of gravel coastline north of Blenheim, Rarangi Campsite offers rugged Pacific Ocean camping with wide horizons and dramatic coastal energy. This DOC standard site appeals to campervan travellers who actively seek raw landscapes, wave soundscapes and open space rather than sheltered marina style environments.

The campsite layout is positioned just behind the beach, allowing campervans to park with direct ocean views and easy shoreline access. Facilities are basic but functional, reflecting DOC standard camping style. The open terrain provides excellent visibility across the coast but also exposes the site to coastal wind patterns, making thoughtful vehicle positioning important for comfort.

The surrounding area offers excellent coastal walking opportunities, including the popular route toward Monkey Bay and nearby sea caves. Surf breaks and fishing spots attract ocean focused travellers, while seabird activity and marine wildlife sightings add constant movement to the environment. Sunrise is particularly memorable here, with golden light reflecting across the gravel shoreline and offshore water.

For campervan travellers, Rarangi works best as a destination style overnight stop rather than a transit rest area. Arriving during daylight allows safer navigation of coastal access roads and easier assessment of tide and wind conditions. Supplies should be stocked beforehand due to limited nearby services.

Rarangi Campsite delivers true Marlborough coastal wilderness, offering a sense of exposure and scale rarely matched by more developed beach parks.
