Reid & Harrison

About the campsite:

Positioned near the entrance to Paradise Valley and surrounded by mountain scenery used in the Lord of the Rings films, Reid and Harrison offers dramatic freedom camping with sweeping alpine views. This is one of the final roadside camping locations before entering some of the most iconic high country landscapes in the region.

The camping area is informal and open, allowing self contained campervans to park with direct mountain outlooks. Facilities are not provided, requiring travellers to arrive fully prepared. The open positioning delivers exceptional visibility but also exposes the site to alpine wind patterns.

The surrounding environment offers access to Paradise Valley, Glenorchy region walking tracks and scenic photography locations. The raw landscape features braided rivers, steep ridgelines and vast sky views. Changing light conditions throughout the day transform the scene constantly.

For campervan travellers, Reid and Harrison works best as a scenic overnight stop before entering Paradise or continuing toward Routeburn Track areas. Arriving during daylight improves site selection and safety.

Reid and Harrison delivers cinematic scenery and high country atmosphere that define Otago alpine travel.
